Prayer is the engine of faith. It is in prayer that God speaks to us about direction, and in prayer that He makes a way.
So there was great value in our event the 26th when about 30 people gathered to pray for Christ Church Long Furlong and for the future of the congregation. After some sung worship and teaching we prayed in groups to thank God for his faithfulness to us at Christ Church Long Furlong and to seek God for what He would have next for us as a church.
We didn’t want to start by looking at plans or potential options for what the church may do. Instead we wanted to be quiet and listen for how God would want to lead and influence us. Specifics will come later, after more prayer. We had a box to put in words, impressions, pictures and burdens we felt in prayer and a few of these are below.
Beyond our monthly prayer meetings, we are asking the congregation to pray regularly for our church as we consider future plans. I would encourage you also to fast over this if you are able. With a weight of prayer behind this process, I am confident that God will give us the understanding that we need and will also open the doors to make it happen.
Here are a few things people wrote down on the 26th
- ‘keep our hands open to receive ’ with a reference to Acts 1:8
- A few people wrote about their fears around a change and one person wrote:‘perfect love casts out fear’
- ‘a picture of a strawberry plant and the sense of fruitfulness throughout ’
Do join us on Feb 24 for another evening of prayer.
