If you are a visitor or newcomer to Long Furlong, a warm welcome to you. Please speak to the service leader and pick up a Welcome to Long Furlong leaflet and a term programme for more information.

Safety advice: we love having your children with us, but please remember that your children's safety is your responsibility whilst on the school premises and they must not be left unsupervised at any time, especially after the services.

While you're on the school premises ... The school has kindly given us permission to use the main hall, nursery, music room, the central outdoor play area (with adult supervision only), the toilets opposite the photocopier, and the corridors needed to get at them. However, please note that all other areas, especially classrooms, are out of bounds. For security reasons, no external doors or windows should be opened except by an adult, who must ensure that they are closed and locked afterwards

PRAYER AFTER THE SERVICE
If anyone would like someone to pray with them on any occasion, or after the service on Sunday, please ask whoever is leading the service, and we will direct you to an appropriate person.

PASTORAL TEAM
If you or anyone you know needs to be visited or would appreciate prayer, please contact Alison Summers (535102), Wendy Crocker (524096) or Cathy Walker (528134).  If you are interested in getting involved in visiting, please speak to one of the team.

UNSTOPPABLE – NEW WINE 2010
MEETING NEXT SATURDAY

We now have over 170 people booked on to New Wine which is now only 3 weeks away. We'd like to invite anyone who is coming, particularly for the first time, to join us for afternoon tea, on Saturday 17th July, 3.30pm, in the lounge at Northcourt Road. This will give us the opportunity to meet, discuss some of the basics of surviving New Wine camping, and you can tell us any preferences you have for who you camp by. You should have heard/soon hear your camp site - we are expecting this to be red 1 & 2, so please check and let us know if there are any problems.
It’s not too late to book on. Half week tickets are available if you can’t join us for the whole week, or even a day pass (see www.new-wine.org to book).

NEWS FROM TOM HUNNINGS
“In July Chris Brotherton and I (along with others) are raising money for two charities that I have been heavily involved with in the last 3-4 years. They are The Catalyst Trust (who endeavour to rehabilitate gang members in London and Oxford) and RainEdge Orphanage and School in Nakuru, Kenya. To understand the relationship between the two charities please take a look at www.catalysttrust.org. We are kayaking around the Cornish coastline from Plymouth around Land’s End and finishing in Bude which is approximately 225 miles. We are hoping to complete this in eight days which is about 25 miles per day at a top speed of 4.5 miles per hour. We will be camping on beaches and the odd campsite and if you would like to know a detailed account of what we are doing and why we are raising the money please look at the below justgiving website. I would really value your support in any way you feel possible. I can be sponsored on www.justgiving.com/tom-hunnings or by a cheque payable to Catalyst Trust and sent to our work address: Penn Tree Services, Watercroft, Church Road, Penn HP10 8NX.”

GATEWAY MONEY TIP
Use the 48 hour rule! Take two days to think about any purchase - ask yourself 'do you really need it' and 'how many hours will you need to work to pay for it'? Give yourself a chance of staying within your budget.

INSPIRED BY CREATION
"A little patch of earth. A quiet spot to reflect. A view that stops you in your tracks. Where do you encounter God through creation?" In September, Oxford Diocese plans a competition. It is to share, using photographs or poetry, ways in which creation inspires you. Could you make it something to think about and look out for during holiday time? More on www.earthingfaith.org/inspired/ Richard Riggs

PRIMETIME ACTIVITY WEEK 10th – 13th August
Only 1 week left to get your application in and to ask a friend!

LOOKING FOR A HOST FAMILY IN ABINGDON
Kurt and Claudia Igler write:
“We are a family of 6 (1 daughter, 3 sons) living in Vienna and working full time with Agape Austria (Campus Crusade) in an evangelistic and apologetic university student's ministry. We are members of a local Baptist church. Our oldest son Johannes, age 15, would like to spend one year at an English school, and we have applied at two schools in Abingdon. It looks quite promising that he will be accepted. Johannes is now in a school with an emphasis on arts, he plays the guitar, but he also loves sports. Now we are looking for a host family (preferably with boy(s) of the same age) in Abingdon who could provide room and board for Johannes from school start in September to summer next year. Of course we are ready to bear the costs for that. We would prefer if this could be a Christian family from a church in Abingdon and have heard good things of your church.”
Please contact the Iglers direct (kurt.igler@gmail.com) or me in the office if you are able to help. Thank you. Christine (539172)
