Being disciples, making disciples.
Opening the doors

Opening the doors!

The Background Story

In 1961, when Northcourt was growing rapidly, the town's Anglican churches decided to plant a new church in the heart of the new community, using a beautiful medieval tithe barn on Northcourt Road, opposite the shops.

Now well over 400 adults and 150 children and teenagers take part in the church's life each Sunday, and that is just part of the story. We also provide, or are home to, numerous activities and groups which serve the needs of the community. We believe that living faith has something positive to contribute to every part of life.

What's Next

As a church, we are sensing God’s strong call to open the doors to the community around us. The emerging 'Father’s Table' ministries are a key part of this, and the Barns Project will enable us to go much further. It will turn the focus of our site outwards to Northcourt Road, throw open our doors to our neighborhood, and enable us to share the life and love of God with others.

Stage One

We hope to transform Barn 1 into a café/coffee shop and Barn 2 into a large, well-equipped meeting place.

The café will be a place of welcome in the daytime for shoppers, adults and children on the school-run, students on the way to and from college, and people who live or work in the area; it will also be a potential venue for evening events. Barn 2 will be a space for larger events.

Stage Two

Developing Barns 3 and 4 will follow later.

When I picture the Barns, I see a place of life and a resource for the whole area. At Christ Church we want to invest in and support our community, and that is why we are renovating an ancient space to create something new.
Whether it is older people or younger families, members from the business community or students, I see this centre as a place of provision for many groups and many needs.
As the buildings are developed, do follow their progress and know that when the doors open, they are opening to all. Tim Davis - Vicar

Dates for your diary

On Monday 7 February 2011, we meet as a whole church to come before God together in worship, take a final prayerful view on the project, and decide together if we are ready to say ’Go!’ with God’s blessing.
